Medical governance
Blood Interpretation explains lab reports with artificial intelligence. Twelve independent doctors and experts decide what that AI is allowed to say: they write the rules it works within, check the medical accuracy of what it produces and keep watch over how it behaves, under a charter each of them has signed.

Role
The charter separates what belongs to medicine from what belongs to supervising the AI. The split answers what the European AI Act expects of human oversight.
Pillar 1
Writing, approving and updating the expert rules: the fixed logic that surrounds the AI and limits what it can state.
Pillar 2
Continuous watch over how the AI behaves: bias, the risk of invented or wrong answers, and how clearly its results can be explained.
Missions
Eight missions, written into the charter, cover the content, the AI and compliance.

Checks that each explanation is accurate and in line with current medicine, and refines how markers are defined and how readers are addressed.

Corrects errors, proposes improvements drawn from clinical practice and helps refine the models, starting with their biases.

Makes sure confidentiality, professional responsibility and informed consent are respected.

Weighs what using AI in health care means beyond the individual reader.

Steps in when a scientific incident or a disagreement arises, and proposes how to resolve it.

Follows changes in regulations and standards so that the service stays compliant.

Connects the service with clinicians, university hospitals and medical institutions, and lends its expertise at selected meetings.

Tests the service as it evolves and approves every update to the AI models before it goes live.
Members
Every member has practiced for at least five years in their field and has signed the committee’s charter. Together they cover:
A chair, elected by the members in a secret ballot for two years (renewable once), sets the agendas, runs the meetings and is the company’s main point of contact.
The company’s founders attend as observers, without a vote. They take no part in deliberations or decisions, speak only when invited, and are bound by the same confidentiality and conflict-of-interest rules as the members.

Independence
The committee meets about once a month. Every meeting has an agenda sent in advance and written minutes.

Its members are independent experts and its opinions inform the company’s decisions. The charter allows six to fifteen members; there are twelve today.

Each member declares any potential conflict when appointed and again at every meeting, and stays out of any discussion or decision it touches.

The committee refuses any rule or wording that would amount to a diagnosis, a prognosis or a personalized treatment recommendation.

Each member signs a confidentiality agreement and only ever sees pseudonymised or anonymised data, in secure environments.

A two-year term, renewable by decision of the committee, balances continuity of expertise with fresh skills.

By consensus, or failing that by simple majority, with a quorum of half the members plus one. An extraordinary meeting can be called within 48 hours.
Limits
The committee designs and approves interpretation rules whose only purpose is to help people understand their results and talk to their doctor about them.
It refuses to create, approve or endorse any rule, feature or AI-generated wording that would amount to a medical diagnosis, a forecast of how a disease will develop, or a personalized treatment recommendation. That line is what keeps Blood Interpretation an information tool rather than a medical device.
Ethics
AI oversight
The charter gives the committee a specific role in how the models themselves work.

The committee oversees the assessment of bias in the algorithms and the data, and makes sure it is corrected.

No new version of an AI model goes live before the committee has confirmed it is scientifically and ethically sound.

The committee sets the criteria used to judge the quality of the data the models rely on.

Every change to the algorithms follows a documented process, with test and review stages.
Transparency
The committee’s governance is written down and can be checked.
Signed by every member, it sets out the committee’s objectives and missions, impartiality and conflicts of interest, the limits of what it may approve, membership, how it operates, its ethical principles, confidentiality and the rules specific to AI. Version 2, February 2026, reviewed at least every two years.
A summary of the year’s work: the main opinions given, the recommendations made and what was done about them. A public version is available, with sensitive information protected.
